Andy Gray of Sky Sports Sacked

Andy Gray, former footballer and pundit for Sky Sports has been sacked….essentially because he failed to see when something had crossed the line; oh the irony?!?

His ‘We’re still on the air!!!’ faux pas comments about a female linesman not knowing the ‘offside’ rule appear to have sparked a similar debate to ‘Brand and Ross’?

…..expect an exceptionally over the top graphical presentation on Saturday to explain why he’s a bit of a chauvinist…..

“You just don’t save those!”.

January Gales!

I consider myself quite fortunate to be home safe tonight; I reluctantly went to the gym after work for a run (ankle is getting much better!) and a swim afterwards.  Sitting in the sauna, I closed my eyes and completely let go of my worldly concerns; no, I didn’t say “ommmm!”.  You crazy racists!

As usual, I got ready to leave at around 9pm and was looking forward to the 10 minute ride home; only to genuinely struggle to open the entry door due to the very strong winds outside!!!!!”.

“Wooooooooooooooo!” the winds howled; just like a couple of flaming queens prancing around London’s ‘Old Compton Street’ on a Friday night.

Believe me, there’s nothing quite like strong winds and heavy rain to humble a motorcyclist; I stepped outside, immediately felt the wind’s resistance as I began to walk and I quite honestly thought, “FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!”.

Do I park up the bike and walk? Yes, that’d be the sensible thing to do? No, I deactivated the alarm, popped the key into the ignition, started the bike up, and glanced to see if the thin trashy blonde girl who left the gym at the same time as me had been blown over 100 yards up the road?!

I figure that ‘blondie’ is around 7 stone (disgraceful!), and if she goes over, there’s no hope for me and my bike!

Somehow, she manages to stay upright; maybe it’s because she’s as thin as a knife and is naturally air resistant?  Perhaps my logic was flawed and it was a bad move basing my decision on whether to ride home or not on whether peroxide was going over?

My eventual decision?  “Bollocks to mother nature!”;  against my better judgement, I held in the clutch lever, selected first gear and off I went; somewhat gingerly down Purley Way, round the back of Five Ways and along Stafford Road.  I must have winced inwardly each time a gust caught my bike fairing and instinctively leaned the bike to compensate for the drag.

I thanked the great Donald Pleasence up in the sky that I only had a relatively short journey and arrived home soaked and beaten by the wind.  The picture below is posey I grant you (it’s mine after all!); but I think it shows the relief in my face that I had gotten home in one piece!?!

Best of all, the bike got a really good wash and blow dry free of charge!  Always a silver lining eh?  Boom boom……

Fuzzy/Grizzly man about town – THE look of 2011.

Ashes victory!!!

Hooray!!!  England cliches the Ashes series 3-1 in Sydney!!!  Never thought I’d live to see this moment!

I’ve watched all the tests, every single innings and have loved watching England play some exceptional cricket.  Well done lads!

Cheerio Australia!!!  Your boys took a hell of a beating!

Bye bye 2010

As I write this; millions of British people will be spending money (that they generally can’t afford) to celebrate the end of 2010 and welcome in 2011; fools!

I have never understood the tradition of the New Year Countdown; it is essentially commercialised clock watching?!??!

That’s right, participants are attaching a party to what might as well be exam invigilation training or a times/motions factory workers daily routine? Boring?

As a petty and insignificant protest I will do this right now, ‘free’ of cost and for the World (the 10 of you who look at this thing) on my blog via my phone.

See?!? You trendy ‘revelling’ fuckfaces?!? it doesn’t have to cost the Earth!!!!

Goodbye 2010, I shall miss your easy to remember digits.

Avatar

I will not be watching ‘Avatar’, no matter how many times it is recommended to me; I think it looks like a load of ultra-nice bollocks.

If I wanted to spend my time with blue heroes I’d pay a visit to the old peoples home around the corner this time of year.

Chico’s first Christmas

Chico is 5 months old this week; and this is his first Christmas!

Mum gave him his first presents this morning too; managed to get them on film.  I love the way he throws the wrapping aside once he gets to the contents!!!

Merry Christmas to one and all 🙂

Tron Legacy

My brother Brian took me to the cinema a lot when I was a kid; we both saw Ghostbusters together and I can still remember being quite freaked out by everyone chanting Ghostbusters! in the cinema at various points during the film.

I also vivdly remember walking home in the snow from the cinema in Purley with Brian and sharing some of his Lamb Doner Kebab (my first) after we’d seen Rocky knock Ivan Drago’s teeth out.

When I think about it, I was very lucky to have an older brother because I probably wouldn’t have seen half the films that I did growing up. And that long list includes one of my favourite films; Tron.

I was 5 when I saw Tron. I remember being utterly absorbed by the animated computer graphics and being quite scared of the digital master control face! Along with all the Atari and arcade games that came out around the same time, Tron is undoubtedly one of my strongest and favourite childhood memories.

Angelo and I went to see the sequel tonight, Tron Legacy ; and seeing the film took me way, way, way back to the good old days.

Waiting for the film, I sat nostalgically remembering the light bikes scenes and Atari game (clearly an influence into why I love motorcyles so much) and wondered if the sequel could ever live up to the original? Amusingly, Brian text me words to that effect just before the trailers kicked in.

The film was utterly gorgeous in IMAX 3D; it is the perfect film to see in the format. Don’t hesitate.

There are certain films which stick in my mind for their epic qualities; Tron, Blade Runner and even The Chronicles of Riddick. The visuals are instantly familiar to the original , but updated with exceptional clarity. I can’t wait for the home release so that I can see how they were able to conceptualise and produce such a vision.

The electro soundtrack was perfect and created an atmosphere befitting the electronic entertainment age that ruled my life during the 80’s and early 90’s. I felt a genuinely pang of sadness when I saw Flynn’s arcade delapidated and abandoned; such places were my playground growing up and now they are no more.

Xbox live has many ‘pros’, but it’ll never be able to compete with the feeling you got stepping into a deafening arcade and running to a machine like your life depended on it.

The story is perhaps the element that surprised me the most; it tied up perfectly with the original and made the 28 year age gap between both films felt both fitting and justified. Jeff Bridges is bloody excellent amongst a fantastically cast film.

I am curious to see whether I dream of Electronic Sheep tonight or not; personally, I’d much prefer that I end up dreaming of riding one of the Tron Legacy light cycles……….. Not in the snow obviously……

Ignore the mixed reviews; Tron Legacy is just that. 10 out of 10.
