My prediction was rather good, I am very pleased that so many people noticed it too!

Team GB vs Senegal – Olympic Football 2011 – Old Trafford
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Old Trafford yesterday, everyone has their Mecca and OT is mine.
OT was a fantastic venue for the game, I drove up in a hired Vauxhall Zafira which was a very comfortable alternative to my Ford Fiesta Zetec; my nephew Kai, my Uncle David and good friend Dave (yes it got confusing) made it to the ‘Park and Ride’ facility at Trafford Centre in good time.
The park and ride transfer from car park to OT consisted of a 1950’s double decker bus which made me feel like I was in an episode of ‘On The Buses’, especially when the driver got lost and went around the one way system several times. By ‘eck it were ‘ot!
Once we made it into the stadium, the heat fatigue ebbed away and I felt spiritually cleansed as I walked up the steps and saw the epic Theatre of Dreams. I felt my Dad smiling down on me for having returned with my Nephew; miss ya Pa.
When Kai and I last visited it was 2007 and we stuffed Villa in the FA Cup, back then Kai was only tiny and he is now getting a gruff voice of his own and stands up to my shoulders!
Old Trafford eventually greeted lofty Uruguay and plucky United Arab Emirates with a genuine warmth that felt awesome compared to various club and international games that I have attended over the years.
The British love an underdog and the crowd got behind UAE as Uruguay pretentiously strutted around until they were shocked by an early UAE goal following an impressive show of skill that saw them dominate the 1st half.
I loved how the crowd booed Suarez in reaction to the racist remarks that he made to Patrice Evra AND the deliberate handball in the last world cup. He did not do anything to endear himself to the public; he whinged, cried, potested and play acted to rouse Uruguay who eventually got their act together to win 2-1.
The Team GB game was a little less exciting due to the physical presence of dirty Senegal tackling along with the lack of creativity offered by the home side at times. That said, it was great to see the Welsh players get the credit they deserved by putting in a shift; Bellamy, Ramsey and my idol, Ryan Giggs.
Giggsy never disappoints me, he rolled back the years to make a world class touch late in the game; 38 years old and forever will be my favourite player of all time. All you modern fanboys can stick Messi up your arse!
Senegal creeped an equaliser in just as we were off home (we left 5 mins early to beat 73,000 people home!) which is a shame as I thought we deserved a win; our boys were kicked black and blue!
It was a wonderful atmosphere at Old Trafford and a night I shall never forget; one that epitomised the a genuine air of fair play and respect for all concerned FAR better than FIFA could ever manage with it’s media campaigns and political spin.
Oh, I got the car home without a scratch at 3am. Am I fucking hardcore or what!?!
Olympic Opening Ceremony – Before
Going to watch the Olympic opening ceremony shortly.
It’s bound to be a ‘BBC fake effnick’ spectacular with pointless mock-gangsta street dancing, synchronised cockney walks and the 1920’s British stereotype that American cinemagoers innocently believe populate tube trains and stately homes; imagine my Mum will love it.
Mum’s Garden
Summer is in full swing, well, until next week when the weather is meant to get crap again!
Thought I’d put up a little gallery of Mum’s garden; so many of the flowers are in bloom and the climbers are really starting to get a hold on the trellises that are dotted around the place.
Paul, my Sisters fella, has done a grand job with the decking and all the woodwork that he has done; I have done my part, having potted and bedded a good deal of the plants and climbers you can see in the gallery below. Replanting the hydrangeas took some doing let me tell you!
Forgot how much I loved to garden, I often helped my Nan when I was a kid (she was a gardening genius) and would often do the same with Mum (clearly followed in her footsteps). It is a simple pleasure?
We still have to move bits around and I also have to assemble and position my KILLER PIT BBQ! But for now, here you go.
Sid – Enduring
The filming crew has gone and I am happy to report that Sid is back in his shack.
All in all, no harm done and the film types cleared up all the rubbish around Sid’s place; it clearly needs a womans touch or a man with cleaning OCD’s.
Not that I know such a man. Ahem.
Actually, Garth Crooks is Baron Silas Greenback from Dangermouse!
Garth Crooks is Tuvix from Star Trek Voyager?!!
Sid turfed out by London 2012 Olympic types?!?!
Sid, the intriguing homeless man who resides in a little shanty shack by my work, appears to have been move on by a load of London 2012 Olympic media ruffians!!!!
The Olympic torch is due to pass through Croydon on Monday the 23rd of July, 2012; Patrick Stewart will be carrying it during the final stage before it goes on to Bromley and it looks like a camera and security crew have set up a temporary base of operations in the vacant lot that Sid considers his front yard!
Two cars turned up initially and a ground crew of three people bagged up all of Sid’s rubbish. It took him ages to make that much mess! Have they no heart???
For all intents and purposes, it looks like Sid has been evicted and it remains to be seen whether our mysterious lodger will return to his estate or not.
Either that or they have picked Sid to be a torchbearer? I suppose that would be a great ‘lefty’ BBC News story wouldn’t it folks?
LOCAL HOMELESS MAN CARRIES OLYMPIC FLAME!
Come back Sid, we’d all miss you if you vanished 😦
Jon Lord RIP
Jon Lord, Deep Purple’s keyboard player, has passed away.
It all began with Deep Purple for me; I listened to various tracks back in my teens and this paved the way for my obsession with Hendrix, Zeppelin and the Spice Girls. The latter may or may not be true.
My Grandfather instilled a huge love of JS Bach into me with his classical influences and I loved how Jon Lord fused classical movements using a Lesley/Hammond organ combo into songs like ‘Child in Time’ and ‘Highway Star’.
Holy fuck, those two tracks STILL blow my mind and are regularly played at an irresponsible volume in my car!
How anyone can listen to the intro of ‘Highway Star’ and not say ‘dun dun dun dun dun!’ in time to the opening riff is beyond me!?!?!
The thing about having retro music tastes is that the artists are pretty much already dead, mad or in their twilight years, however it was still a ‘shock’ to see that Jon Lord had passed away.
I can only say that it made me a little sad because it reminded me of a much simpler time in my life and one when I was probably most creative, that said, I couldn’t hold a candle to the talents of Mr Lord if I lived several lifetimes!
Rest in Peace Jon, you absolutely legend!
