Racism at Euro 2012

Much has been said about the documentaries and articles surrounding the degree of organised racism in Ukraine and Poland.

Quite frankly, I find it all a little ironic to hear people piping up about the subject yet they were fierce in their defence of the racist footballer Luis Suarez?

I’ve heard similar mutterings from fans about John Terry, will he be rejected if convicted? Discarded by the fans who consider him some kind of Mesiah? I doubt it.

Lest we forget Sepp Blatter and his silly comments about handshakes? If the head of FIFA believes racism can be solved that way, it’s no wonder FIFA picked the Ukraine as the venue for Euro 2012 in the first place?

It seems to be the latest trend to get on the bandwagon and have a dig about Neo Nazi groups in the Third-World Section of Europe; personally, I think we need to have a bloody good long look at the institutionalised racism in the UK and Spain?

I hope the tournament goes smoothly to prove the bloodletting media wrong!

Day of the triffic Trifids

The South East of England reached temperatures of around 25oC-27oC over the last week; Summer is very much upon us!

I spent much of my weekend indulging in various gardening related pursuits.  Yes, really!

On Saturday I took Mum to Homebase to get some building supplies.  On the way out I decided to grab the Jamie Oliver Pit BBQ that I’ve had my eye on for some time (£129! Bargain!!!).  I managed to get the mammoth sized box into my car along with all the bags of concrete, decorative gravel and bags of compost.  Carrying all that into the house was an absolute bastard in the heat let me tell you!

I capped Saturday evening off with a very impulsive BBQ thanks to my tiny disposable charcoal grill; I have decided to wait until all the gardening is done before I assemble my new crematorium!  ‘Tiny’ (what I call my disposable BBQ) was more than up to the task.  Bravo.

Sunday I took Mum to Woodcote Garden Centre in Wallington and we sauntered around whilst all the middle-class wannabes stuffed their faces in the expensive restaurant.  They pay through the nose for food that would be much cheaper in Marks and Spencer, perhaps that’s part of the appeal?  Whoever would have thought that a Garden Centre would become a magnet for the snooty old tarts of Surrey?

Together Mum and I found some really nice plants and flowers (at affordable prices!) and arrived back home to find that Paul finished off the planter.  I potted and bedded Mum’s new plants and gave them all a good drink (No hosepipe, we’re still under a ban!); I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed gardening as a kid with Mum and my dear old Nan.

We are meant to have thunderstorms for the next few days which should be interesting!  I find it very amusing that that the same people who moaned and groaned about the prolonged and TRADITIONAL April Showers were also complaining last week about how hot it has been.  AND they will undoubtedly be moaning when mighty Thor starts shaking his divine version of the Rolf Harris Wobble Board.  Cunts.

The Queens Jubilee weekend looks to see a return of the sunshine so that Her Maj can look splended in her Jacques Vert get up over the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend; wouldn’t it be awful if the weather was constantly one type as some people would have it?

The Sun has got his hat on, hip hip hip hooray!  The Sun has got his hat on and Uranus is a gay!

Fire At Sid’s Place

I am sad to report that Sid (the local homeless bloke) has had a spot of misfortune today!

I was reliably informed during my lunch break that there was a fire near my office. Bored and curious, I popped over to the window to have a mooch.

The foliage next to Sid’s gaff was alight! By Jove!!!

I briefly pondered whether or not there was going to be a divine exodus out of Croydon due to the burning bush, alas, it was not a sign from God but was probably caused by an exploding pigeon. Have at you Satan!!!

The source of the fire will undoubtedly be a mystery until the end of time. The usual right-wing types appeared to be quite pleased that a homeless immigrants shelter was ablaze.

I couldn’t help but feel sympathy for Sid whilst the firemen (no women were present so I don’t have to say Fire person) broke the hosepipe ban and drenched the West Wing of his shack, presumably along with his belongings.

Sid is off the scene at the moment and is most likely unaware of the disaster. My thoughts and prayers go out to him.

No doubt the left-wing types will have poncy wristbands made to wear at a ‘Save Sid from Kony’ fun run! Time and venue to be confirmed next week.

It is something of an irony that a fire broke out in between the offices of two major insurance companies?!?

Right, must go and put my magnifying glass on Ebay!

Burning Of The Midnight Lamp

It is 1:30am and I should be tucked up in bed getting eight good hours of sleep before work.

As you can see, I am not………this is because my brain often decides to suddenly start racing around with stupid ideas at midnight and I gradually develop the same sort of reluctance to go to bed that I remember having as a small child.

I somehow come to the illogical conclusion that sleep is over-rated!?

I’m not sure you can call it insomnia because I could sleep if I want to?  Nothing is wrong, I am content and have been in a cheerful mood all day; I just don’t want to sleep?

There are better things to be doing instead of sleeping, like listening to music?

There is something to be said for revisiting old tunes now and again, my inspriation for the blog title comes from a  Jimi Hendrix song.

‘Burning Of The Midnight Lamp’ was one of the first Hendrix songs that I remember really connecting with.  I can still remember the first time that I heard the distinctive melodic guitar riff at the beginning of the song (I eventually learned how to play the riff) along with the killer guitar solo that has the unique warbling fuzz sound (couldn’t learn that bit Jimi, you clever bastard!).

It’s odd really.  Sometimes, at midnight, I think that I can get away with watching an hour-long programme (like Dexter, Fringe or Latina Sluts Do Bumsex 8) and go to bed at 1am.  After all, 7 hours sleep is a reasonable time after all?  Then at 1am, I think “……ah sod it!”  or “I’ll call it quits at 2am and get 6 hours sleep!”.

I appreciate that I may come across as being rather arrogant and a little odd for genuinely believing that I can function better on 5-6 hours of sleep than most people can after a full nights kip.  Lets face it, I know I can!

Hey, if you want to read a more humble blog entry then than this one, well, you’d best piss off somewhere else innit??!  That’s how I roll!

Patrice Evra – Vilified

I feel compelled to write about today’s FA cup game between Manchester United and Liverpool; I am appauled by what I have just witnessed live on television.

I wasn’t sickened by the final result (United lost 2-1 despite out-playing Liverpool for most of the game; but that’s cup football), but rather the way in which the crowd set about treating Patrice Evra from kick-off.

The British media are largely to blame for this retaliation in my opinion because they have printed articles all week suggesting that it was perfectly acceptable for Liverpool fans to boo Patrice Evra, but not call him the unnacceptable racist names that Luis Suarez was banned for.

The tens of thousands of people who booed Evra did so because they took exception to the way he was brave enough to confront racism during a game of professional football.   There is no other explanation?

Lets face it, the thousands booing Evra might as well have put on Ku Klux Klan sheets and burned crosses with the way they jeered him today?  This was DEFINITELY not the ‘rival club banter’ that the pundits tried to pass it off as and everyone that booed are as guilty of racism as Suarez.

Liverpool FC acted irresponsibly and without class during the whole Suarez affair; I think the way they produced t-shirts to publically support Suarez was disgraceful given the gravity of what Suarez had done; he knew perfectly well what he was doing when he called Patrice Evra what he did.

Ultimately, it all boils down to the fact that football is still as institutionally racist as it was when I was a kid.  The ‘Respect’ campaign now appears to be fantastically hollow because Suarez should have been banned for life and Liverpool FC should have been fined/banned/punished for acting irresponsibily in their continued support of him.

We are to believe that racism is being stamped out of the modern game and that it is a far cry from what I used to see in the 1980’s;  in reality, we have very powerful people with ulterior motives employing an underhanded campaign of smoke and mirrors, purely to distract people from the fact that racism is clearly as prevalent as ever before?

The picture, taken from live TV footage from today’s game says it all!!?

Testes testes, one two. :: cough ::

It’s sound check day today…..12.1.12 Geddit?

What’s the world coming to eh? I popped on the BBC evening news, only to be told that Tesco hadn’t made a wazza amount of profit during 2011 (only £89,328,923,932, small change innit?) whilst Sainsbury’s had somehow managed to make loads of wonga; guess they sold more pigs in blankets this Christmas?

BBC news suddenly switched pace and mood to sensationally cover the story involving the youtube video footage that is currently causing outrage all over the world; that of US marines who were filmed urinating on dead Taliban troops. I was really, really shocked. I honestly thought that Tesco would make an obscene amount of profit this year given that they have more shops per square mile than McDonalds AND KFC?

As for the US Marine story, blimey, it’s a sad thing when you realise that you’ve actually gotten used to seeing things like that in the news? The idiotic jarheads filmed each other whilst taking a slash over poor old Mustapha Leik’s gladrags (perhaps they took his name too seriously?) so that it could be some kind of neanderthalistic war trophy?. A keepsake to show their grandchildren perhaps?

Yippeekayamotherfucker! Bet their families are proud!

2012 – Off we go!

Right.  So that’s 2011 done and dusted, thank fuck for that!

Why am I still up at 3:00am???  I can’t sleep for some reason, so I have just spent my insomnia in a productive fashion and updated the site content; particularly the main site pages.

I’ve updated ‘Kev’s Bio’ Page as I felt that needed doing (added a bit more for the recent years section within it).  I also sorted out the ‘Antikrish – About’ page to give someone a better idea what the blog is about and I have generally tweaked with a few other minor (not literally tweaked minors!) bits so that the site reflects what it’s being used for these days.  That is to say, less focus on the music that Alex and I don’t do anymore and provide more focus to my ‘Antirants’ and site posts!.  Marvelous.

I think I’ll go and crash out now for a few hours; I’d like to wish anyone reading this a very properous and healthy 2012.

Love light and peace.

Antikrish.
